Step markings and profiles
Step markings and profiles increase the visibility of stairs
People with cognitive, motor and visual impairments need to be able to recognise stairs with appropriate markings in order to minimise the potential for accidents. This applies in particular to escape and rescue routes. In public buildings, step markings are mandatory for up to three individual steps and stairs that begin or end freely in the room at each step. In stairwells and stairs that do not start freely in the room, this requirement applies to the first and last step; it makes sense to mark all steps. // see DIN 18040 1:2010-10 and DIN 32984:2020-12
